Gà làm sạch, chặt miếng vừa ăn, sả cắt khoanh hoặc đập dập cắt khúc, nấm làm sạch ngâm nước 10 phút rồi rửa sạch cắt đôi.
Ướp gà với gói gia vị gà hầm, muối, hạt nêm trong 15 phút cho gà thấm gia vị. Làm nóng chảo, cho dầu ăn và tỏi vào phi vàng rồi cho gà đã ướp vào xào sơ cho thịt gà săn lại.
Đun sôi nước dừa với 200ml nước cốt dừa sau đó cho sả và gà đã xào sơ, nấm rơm vào, đun lửa vừa thêm 30 phút cho gà chín mềm thấm gia vị. Sau 30 phút, thêm đường và 150ml nước cốt dừa còn lại vào đảo đều rồi tắt bếp.
Cho gà hầm ra tô, trang trí rau thơm lên, món này dùng nóng với bún rất ngon.
